Haitian Vodou is a traditional Afro-Haitian religion that combines different beliefs, including West African spiritual systems and Catholicism. The religion is also known as "Voodoo," "Vodun," or "Vodou." These synonyms may be used interchangeably but they represent different spellings or pronunciations based on their language and culture of origin. Some variations of the religion also exist in other countries, such as Benin, Togo, and Ghana, where it is mostly called Vodun. In some communities, the term "Haitian Vodou" is not preferred as it implies a limitation of the religion's reach and influence. Instead, some practitioners use more inclusive terms like "African Traditional Religion" or simply "Vodou".
