Steelhead, also referred to as rainbow trout, are a highly sought-after fish species primarily found in the Pacific Northwest waters. Commonly known as "silver trout" or "sea-run trout," they can be found in both freshwater streams and saltwater estuaries, adapting to the environment they reside in. They are prized for their firm, pink flesh and their fighting spirit when caught on the fly. Other synonyms for Steelhead include "Oncorhynchus mykiss," "coastal rainbow trout," "anadromous rainbow trout," "steelies," and "salters." The Steelhead's migration back to its freshwater spawning grounds also makes it an important species in the ecosystem, as they bring valuable nutrients to the streams they return to.
