The House Un-American Activities Committee, often referred to as HUAC, was a controversial committee established in the United States in 1938. HUAC was responsible for investigating suspected subversive activities and promoting patriotism during times of national conflict. Throughout HUAC's existence, it gained many synonyms and nicknames due to its polarizing nature. Some of those synonyms included the Red Hunt Committee, the Witch Hunt Committee, the Un-American Activities Committee, or simply referred to as the House Committee.
