The African Wild Ass, also known as African Donkey or Somali Wild Ass, is a critically endangered species native to northeastern Africa. Although it is not very commonly found, there are several synonyms of the African Wild Ass that are used interchangeably depending on the region. These include Western Nubian Wild Ass, Somali Wild Ass, Dongola Wild Ass, and Abyssinian Wild Ass. Despite the different names, they all refer to the same species of wild donkey that can be identified by its grey-brown coat, white belly, and distinctive black-tipped ears. Unfortunately, due to habitat loss and hunting, the population of the African Wild Ass has decreased significantly over the years, making conservation efforts crucial for their survival.
