Bere is an ancient city and bishopric in the province of Palermo, Sicily, southern Italy. The town is situated on a promontory of the same name, which projects into the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its temple was dedicated to Apollo, and it is supposed that it was founded by Cadmus. In 574 BC it became subject to the Carthaginians, but in 409 BC it passed into the dominion of Syracuse. It obtained the rank of a colony of Syracuse in 264 BC, but was taken by the Romans in 210 BC.
