The betulaceae family of plants is composed of about 60 members, most of which are found in North America. They are small to medium-sized shrubs or trees, the majority of which are deciduous. Many of the plants in the family are uncommon in cultivation, and many are rare or endangered.

The family is best known for its Betula tree, which is the primary source of American birch beer. Other common Betulaceae plants include the silver maple, the red maple, and the aromatic Ontario maple. Some members of the family are important food plants for wildlife, such as the mooseberry and the barrier layer tree.
