Breech delivery, also known as buttocks-first delivery, occurs when the baby's buttocks or legs are positioned to come out of the birth canal first instead of the head. There are several synonyms for breech delivery, including frank breech, complete breech, footling breech, and kneeling breech. A frank breech indicates that the baby's buttocks are leading, while their legs are stretched up towards their head. Complete breech means that the baby is sitting cross-legged, with their feet near their bottom. In footling breech, one or both of the baby's feet are extended downward towards the birth canal. Lastly, kneeling breech is where the baby is on all fours, with their head and arms tucked in.
