A coniferous forest or a boreal forest is a type of forest biome that comprises trees that possess cones and needles. These trees are adaptations to the harsh and cold weather of high northern latitudes. Coniferous forests are also referred to as Taiga forest, Evergreen forest, Needleleaf forest, or a Temperate forest. Evergreen forest describes the coniferous forests' trees that retain greenery throughout the year. Taiga forest is derived from Russia's word and describes the northern part of the boreal forest, which means the 'land of little sticks.' Needleleaf forest relates to the thin, needle-like leaves of the trees, while a temperate forest refers to the moderate climate in the northern hemisphere.
