Coran is the French term for the Islamic holy book, the Quran. With more than 6,000 verses, the Quran is the central religious text of Islam and is considered the direct word of God as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. Although the word "Coran" is widely used in French-speaking countries, there are other synonyms for the term. In Arabic-speaking countries, the Quran is known as the "Al-Kitab," which translates to "the book." The Persian term for the Quran is "Qoran," while the Turkish version is known as the "Kuran." Regardless of the language, the messages and teachings contained within the Islamic holy book remain the same.
