Duodecimal system, also known as base-12 system, is a numerical system that uses twelve as its base instead of the commonly used ten. There are several synonyms for the duodecimal system including dozenal, duodecimal notation, base-12 numeration, uncial system and duodecuple system. The duodecimal system was used by many ancient civilizations such as the Babylonians, the Mayans and the Chinese. Today, it is still used in some parts of the world for specific purposes such as measuring time and angles. The duodecimal system is considered to be more efficient than the decimal system when it comes to dividing by common fractions such as halves, thirds and quarters.
