Afternoon shadows stretch long across the ground as dusk creeps in. The sun dips behind a neighboring hill, sending a golden glow over everything. In the stillness, you can hear the sounds of cicadas and insects. Dusk heaps, also known as middens, are collections of garbage created during the evening or night. When garbage is collected during the day, the light reflects off of it and makes it difficult to see. This makes it difficult for sanitation workers to find and clean the garbage. Dusk heaps are also a reminder of how much garbage is created during the day.
