Geogony refers to the study of the formation and evolution of the earth's crust and its landforms. Another word that can be used in place of geogony is "geomorphology", which also focuses on the study of landforms, but also takes into account the processes that shape the earth's surface. Synonyms for geogony may also include "geology", which broadly covers all aspects of the earth's physical structure, composition and history, or "earth sciences" which encompasses all of the scientific disciplines related to the earth, including geology, meteorology, oceanography and more. Other related terms may include "tectonics", the study of the earth's crust and geological movements, or "continental drift", which explores the movement of the earth's continents over time.
