Granuloma inguinale, also known as Donovanosis, is a rare bacterial infection that affects the genital region. It is caused by the bacterium Klebsiella granulomatis and is typically found in tropical and subtropical regions. The infection results in the development of small, red bumps that gradually enlarge and turn into pus-filled ulcers. While Granuloma Inguinale is the recognized medical term for this condition, it is also known by a few synonymous terms such as Donovanosis or Granuloma venereum. Other synonyms for this infection include Pseudo-lymphogranuloma venereum and Ulcus tropicum. Regardless of what name it's given, early treatment is important to avoid complications such as scarring and the spread of the infection to other parts of the body.
