Ichthyostega is an extinct genus of tetrapod known from fossils found in Greenland. Its name comes from the Greek words "ichthys" meaning fish, and "stege" meaning roof, due to its fish-like appearance. There are no known synonyms for the name Ichthyostega within the scientific community. However, it is sometimes referred to as a Tiktaalik-like animal, which is another extinct fish-like tetrapod. Other related genera include Acanthostega and Ventastega. These ancestral species provide important insights into the evolution of tetrapods and the transition from aquatic to terrestrial habitats during the Devonian period.
