Lance Corporal is a term used in military organizations to describe a rank of a soldier or marine below the rank of corporal, but above the rank of private. This rank is often referred to by different names depending upon the branch of service or country. For example, in the United States Marine Corps, the rank of lance corporal is often informally referred to as "Lance Coolie" or simply "Lance." Similarly, in the British Army, the term "Lance Jack" is used to refer to a Lance Corporal.
