Maria mazzini was an Italian patriot and activist who helped start the Italian Revolution of 1849. As the leader of an irregular military unit, she played a vital role in the overthrow of the Papal States, which paved the way for a united Italy. Once in power, Mazzini devoted himself to mobilizing the people and reforming government. He was also a vocal opponent of Austria and sought to create a neutral Italy free from foreign influence. In 1862, Mazzini was sentenced to death for his role in the revolution, but he fled to France and later to England. He died in 1872 at the age of 81.
