Menkes disease is a rare genetic disorder that affects copper metabolism in the body and leads to a variety of health problems. This disease is also known as Menkes syndrome, Kinky hair disease, and Trichopoliodystrophy. It is caused by a mutation in copper transport genes, resulting in the accumulation of copper in the liver and brain, leading to developmental delays, seizures, and other neurological symptoms. Although there are several different names for Menkes disease, they all refer to the same condition and are used interchangeably. Unfortunately, there is no cure for Menkes disease, and treatment options are limited to symptom management and supportive care.
