There are several synonyms for micas, some of which include sheet silicates, phyllosilicates, and cleavelandites. The term sheet silicates refers to the flat, layered structure of micas, which allows them to easily split into thin sheets. Phyllosilicates is derived from the Greek word "phyllon" meaning leaf, which also describes the layered structure of micas. Cleavelandite is a type of albite feldspar that is often associated with mica, and is named after the American mineralogist Parker Cleaveland. All of these synonyms can be used interchangeably to refer to the group of minerals known as micas.
