Nusinersen is a drug used to treat spinal muscular atrophy. It is also known by its brand name, Spinraza. However, there are several other terms that can be used synonymously with nusinersen. These include SMN-Rx, RG7800, ISIS-SMN Rx, and ISIS 396443. Each of these names refers to the same drug, developed by Biogen in collaboration with Ionis Pharmaceuticals. Nusinersen works by increasing the production of survival motor neuron (SMN) protein, which is disrupted in spinal muscular atrophy.
