However, many people find the term "old folks' homes" outdated and insensitive. A more contemporary term that is often used is "senior living communities" which implies a more vibrant and social environment for the elderly. "Retirement homes," "assisted living facilities," or "nursing homes" are also commonly used to describe such communities. Furthermore, "long-term care facilities" is an alternate term used to describe establishments that cater to elderly individuals with chronic diseases or conditions that require round-the-clock care and attention.
