The olfactory area, also known as the olfactory region or olfactory system, is responsible for our sense of smell. This area includes the olfactory bulb, which receives input from specialized sensory neurons that detect different odors. Though the term olfactory area is commonly used, there are a variety of other synonyms that can be used to refer to this region of the brain and the sense of smell. These include the sense of olfaction, nasal system, aroma receptors, and olfactometry. Additionally, the olfactory area is connected to other areas of the brain that process and interpret the sensory information, such as the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex.
