Plethodon cinereus is a salamander species mostly found in the eastern United States. The species is commonly known as the eastern red-spotted newt, red eft or simply the red-spotted newt. There are other synonyms for the Plethodon cinereus like Diemyctylus ruber, Triturus ruber, Salamandra cinerea, and Spelerpes ruber. These salamanders are quite interesting creatures, they have a unique life cycle where they start their life as aquatic larvae, lives on land as a juvenile and returns to the water to breed.
