The Ptolemaic dynasty was a ruling family in ancient Egypt that lasted from 305 BC to 30 BC. This dynasty was established by Ptolemy I Soter, and was known for its cultural and scientific achievements. Some synonyms for the Ptolemaic dynasty include the Ptolemaic Kingdom, the Ptolemaic Empire or the Ptolemaic Era. It was also known as the Lagid dynasty, named after the founder of the dynasty, Ptolemy I's father, Lagus.
