Saint Francis Xavier was born November 24, 1542, in what is now Burgos, Castile, Spain. From a young age, Francis showed a deep devotion to Jesus Christ and an intense love for others. He desired to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and become a missionary, traveling to bring the gospel to the people of the world. After much prayer and contemplation, Francis decided to become a Jesuit, a religious order founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola.
In 1552, Francis entered the Jesuits and was sent to Rome to study. While there, he became deeply involved in the Holy Roman Empire and its politics.
