Shikimic acid is a type of plant-derived organic acid that is used in the production of the antiviral drug Tamiflu. As such, it is often referred to in scientific literature as TM or Oseltamivir Intermediate. Other synonyms for shikimic acid include 3,4,5-Trihydroxycyclohexene-1-carboxylic acid, 3,4,5-Trihydroxybenzoic acid, and 3,4,5-Trihydroxy-1-cyclohexene-1-carboxylic acid.
