Speaking alone is often called soliloquy, monologue or self-talk. A soliloquy is when a character in literature speaks their thoughts aloud, usually when they are alone on stage. A monologue refers to when someone speaks for an extended period of time to an audience. Self-talk refers to the inner dialogue that we have with ourselves. All three of these terms refer to speaking alone in some way or another. Whether it is a character expressing their deepest thoughts to the audience, someone talking to themselves aloud, or their inner dialogue, all of these forms of speaking alone are important in different contexts.
