Andre Stokowski was born on October 22, 1882, in Warsaw, Poland. He began his music career as a violinist and conductor. In 1909, he moved to Paris and became the conductor of the Paris Opera. In 1917, he founded the London Symphony Orchestra. Stokowski continued to lead the London Symphony Orchestra until his retirement in 1957.
