The Subfamily Melolonthidae comprises a group of beetles that are commonly referred to as scarab or May beetles. These beetles are known for their distinctive, oval-shaped body and are usually found in large numbers during the spring months. They belong to the family of Scarabaeidae which also includes dung beetles and chafers. Aside from being known as scarab or May beetles, the Subfamily Melolonthidae beetle species are commonly referred to with different synonyms, including the White Grub (larval form), Cockchafer, Oriental beetle, and Black Turfgrass Ataenius.
