A syntactician is someone who specializes in the study of sentence structure, grammar and syntax. There are many synonyms for the word syntactician, including linguist, grammarian, semanticist, philologist and syntaxian. Each term applies to a slightly different area of linguistic study, but each member of this lexicon will be fascinated by the composition of language. A linguist will be interested in the structure of language, while a philologist will focus on the history of language.
