The Syrian hamster is a popular pet around the world. Also known as the golden hamster, this small rodent is native to Syria and some parts of Turkey. Apart from the common name Syrian hamster, this species is also referred to as the teddy bear hamster because of its furry and cuddly appearance. Other synonyms for the Syrian hamster include the standard hamster, the fancy hamster, and the short-haired hamster. Some breeders refer to this species as the "teddy bear hamster," while others use the term "dwarf hamster," despite the fact that they are not actually dwarfs.
