The term "the male menopause" refers to the condition of andropause, which is the decrease in testosterone levels and a decline in sexual function, mood, and energy levels in middle-aged men. Other terms used to describe andropause include male climacteric, male aging syndrome, male midlife crisis, and androgen decline in aging males. While the symptoms of andropause are similar to those experienced by women during menopause, the male menopause is often overlooked and considered to be non-existent by many doctors. Nevertheless, recognizing and understanding the male menopause can help men cope with the physical and emotional changes that accompany aging.
