Ulysses Simpson Grant is best remembered as the 18th President of the United States of America, and as a famed military commander during the Civil War. But, did you know that there are a number of synonyms for the name that Grant was christened with at birth? Some of these synonyms include Hiram Ulysses Grant, U.S. Grant, and simply Grant. Interestingly, the name Ulysses that Grant is most commonly known by today was actually a mistake made by a Congressman who had nominated him to attend West Point Military Academy.
