The word "windigo" has been used by different tribes and cultures throughout Canada and the United States to describe a malevolent spirit or monster. While the term "windigo" is most commonly recognized, there are many synonyms for this concept. The Cree people also refer to the windigo as "witiko" or "wetiko," while the Ojibwe people call it "wendigo." Other similar terms include "wechuge" used by the Athabascan tribe, "cannibal spirit" and "man-eater." Regardless of the name, the windigo is known for its insatiable hunger for human flesh and its ability to possess individuals, leading them down a path of destruction and violence.
