An atomic power plant, also known as a nuclear power plant, is a complex system of nuclear reactors and other facilities designed for generating electricity through nuclear reactions. There are several synonyms for an atomic power plant such as a nuclear plant, nuclear energy facility, nuclear power station, nuclear reactor, and atomic energy plant. These synonyms serve to describe the same type of facility that generates energy from the splitting of atoms. Nuclear power plants currently provide about 10% of the world's electricity and are considered a low-carbon alternative to fossil fuels. However, they also carry significant risks, such as radioactive waste and potential nuclear accidents.
