A bomb vessel, also known as a bomb ketch, was a type of sailing ship used by naval forces to launch bombs at enemy targets. Similar vessels with slightly different names and designs were also used, such as mortar schooners and bomb brigantines. These ships were equipped with specialized mortar cannons that could launch explosive shells over long distances. They were used extensively during the Age of Sail, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars and the American Revolution. Other synonyms for bomb vessel include bomb ship, bomb galley, and bomb gunboat, all of which were used by various navies throughout history.
