Although the term 'crown post' is used ubiquitously in European and American building trades, there exist several synonyms for it. In English, this post was also known as the Kingpost, Corbel Post, Barra, or Kappe. In French, it is called Arrenier or Arretier and in German, it is referred to as the Sturzpfosten .
