Photogrammetry is the science of obtaining accurate measurements and data from photographs. There are a variety of synonyms for photogrammetry, some of which include: aerial surveying, drone mapping, remote sensing, mapping from images, and image-based modeling. Aerial surveying refers to the use of an aircraft or helicopter to capture photos from above for the purpose of creating maps or measurements. Drone mapping is similar to aerial surveying, but uses unmanned aerial vehicles to capture images. Remote sensing is the use of satellites or other remote devices to capture images for analysis. Mapping from images and image-based modeling both refer to the use of photographs to create three-dimensional models or maps. Regardless of the synonym used, photogrammetry is a powerful tool for creating accurate and detailed data from photographs.
