The term "eve-teasing" is commonly used in South Asian countries to describe the act of sexual harassment, particularly in public places. However, the term itself has been criticized for downplaying the seriousness of the issue and suggesting that the woman is somehow responsible for the harassment. As a result, there have been efforts to find alternative, more appropriate terms to describe such behavior. Some suggested synonyms include "street harassment," "sexual misconduct," "unwanted advances," "verbal abuse," and "gender-based violence." These terms aim to accurately reflect the gravity of the situation and shift the focus from victim-blaming to holding the perpetrator accountable.
