Cape Colony was a British colony in Southern Africa from 1806 until 1910. The colony encompassed the Cape of Good Hope and its surrounding area. Over the years, the colony had different names, such as the Dutch Cape Colony, the Cape Province, and the Cape of Good Hope Colony. These are all synonyms for Cape Colony that were used interchangeably throughout history. The Cape of Good Hope was also referred to as the Cape Peninsula or simply just "the Cape."
