Family Tenthredinidae comprises of ten described species of fish. They occur mostly in tropical and subtropical waters, but two species ( the blackspot tenrec and the dusky tenrec ) are found in temperate waters. All ten species are oviparous, with egg-laying occurring in monogamous pairs. Although they are small fish, they are efficient swimmers and can often be found in close proximity to each other. Most species are able to live in a range of pH levels, although they are not tolerant of high levels of pollution. They are of economic importance, being either food or pet species.
