The Malian franc is the official currency of the West African nation of Mali. However, like any other currency, there are several synonyms for the Malian franc. These include CFA franc, which is the currency of several other countries in West and Central Africa, such as Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, and Senegal, among others. The Malian franc is also sometimes referred to as the West African Franc or the Communaute Financiere Africaine (CFA) Franc, reflecting its use across the region. Sometimes abbreviated as XOF, the Malian franc uses banknotes with denominations ranging from 500 to 10,000 francs.
