Marburg virus is a highly infectious and deadly virus that is known to cause severe hemorrhagic fever in humans and non-human primates. Synonyms for Marburg virus include Marburg hemorrhagic fever virus, Marburg fever virus, Marburg virus disease, and Marburg virus infection. The virus was first identified in 1967 in Marburg, Germany, when outbreaks of hemorrhagic fever occurred among laboratory workers exposed to infected African green monkeys. Since then, several outbreaks of Marburg virus have been reported in different parts of the world, including Africa, Europe, and Asia. The virus is spread by direct contact with infected bodily fluids or tissues, and there is currently no specific treatment or vaccine available for this deadly disease.
