Shotgun Mike is a term mostly used in broadcasting industry referring to a type of microphone. A Shotgun microphone basically has a narrow sound-receiving pattern so that it can pick up sound sources from a distance while rejecting sound sources from the sides of the microphone. Therefore, it is usually used in film production and broadcast applications. Some of the synonyms for Shotgun Mike are boom mic, directional microphone, condenser shotgun microphone, and interference tube microphone. Boom Mic is a nickname for shotgun mic, however, directional microphone and interference tube microphone are technical terms used to describe Shotgun mic.
