Archaeogenetics is a relatively new field of study that focuses on using genetic material from ancient remains to better understand the history of human populations. While the term archaeogenetics is widely used, there are a number of synonyms that can be used interchangeably to describe this discipline. These include but are not limited to, paleogenetics, genetic archaeology, ancient DNA (aDNA), historic genetics, and molecular archaeology. Regardless of the name used, the study of archaeological genetics is an exciting and rapidly evolving area of research that has the potential to deepen our understanding of human history and evolution.
