Due west is a phrase commonly used to describe a direction or location that is directly to the west. However, there are several other ways to articulate this same direction. These synonyms include true west, westward, west-northwest, and even the commonly used colloquial phrase, "straight west". True west and westward can be used interchangeably with due west, while west-northwest denotes a direction slightly more towards the north than due west. Regardless of which synonym is used, all indicate a direction towards the western horizon.
