How to use "Geographical zone" in context?
Geographical zones are a broader concept than geographic regions. They are used in the Environmental Research Letters to refer to spatially overlapping groups of species that have geographical overlap in their ranges. In other words, a zone contains members of the same biogeographical province. Each zone can be further divided into sub-zones, based on the degree of genetic and/or ecological distance among the species in the zone.
The concept of a geographic zone was first introduced into conservation biology by Harry W. evolutionary biologist and Stephen Jay Gould's student, Michael R. Jackson.
