The Indian mongoose, also known as the grey mongoose, is a small carnivorous mammal found primarily in South Asia. It belongs to the family Herpestidae, which includes various species of mongoose found in Africa and Asia. The Indian mongoose is sometimes also referred to as the common mongoose, striped mongoose or simply mongoose. In Hindi, it is called 'nevla' and in Bengali, it is known as 'baner'.
The Indian mongoose is known for its agility, intelligence and incredible ability to kill venomous snakes, making it popular in many cultures where it is revered as a good luck charm and also kept as a pet in some instances.
