What is sapience? Early theologians and philosophers used the word sapience to describe the surpassing ability of humans to reason, plan, and think abstractly. But what does this ability mean for humans? And how can it be enhanced?

There is no agreed-upon answer to these questions. Some say that sapience constitutes the highest stage of human development and that it can be enhanced by learning, experiencing, and interacting with the world around us. Others believe that sapience is something that humans are born with, and that it cannot be acquired or improved.
