Marchantiophyta is also known as liverworts, a division of non-vascular plants known for their unique morphology. Additionally, they can also be referred to as Hepaticophyta, a synonym used interchangeably with Marchantiophyta for the same group of liverwort plants. Furthermore, these primitive plants are made up of two distinct groups: thallose liverworts and leafy liverworts. In some instances, Marchantiophyta is also called bryophytes, another synonym used to refer to non-vascular plants, including liverworts, mosses, and hornworts. The name bryophytes is often used as a collective term for these three groups of plants that lack vasculature, and reproduce via spores.
