One of the most famous examples of maximian is the emperor Maximian whose rule in the late third century is celebrated for initiating major changes in the administrative and military organization of the Roman Empire. Through Maximian's efforts, the empire was divided into two halves, the Western and Eastern halves, and the provinces were standardized making it easier for the legions to be mobilized in case of emergencies. Maximian also increased the size of the army and established new offices, including the office of inspector general. In terms of religious policy, Maximian abolished the persecution of Christians that had been conducted under his predecessor, Constantine.
